Hue Walking Street

The weekend pedestrian quarter around Chu Van An, Vo Thi Sau and Pham Ngu Lao streets on the south bank: street food, live music, craft beer and Hue after dark.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings the three streets of Hue's backpacker district, a few blocks south of the Perfume River, close to traffic and become a pedestrian zone. Bars and cafes spill onto the pavement, food carts grill skewers and serve Hue snacks, buskers and small bands play on the corners, and the mix of locals, students and travellers gives the area an easy, sociable feel that is rare in a city known for its calm. It is the best place to sample Hue street food in one stroll, from banh khoai pancakes to grilled squid, and to find live music without planning. Prices are low and the atmosphere is family-friendly early on, livelier after ten. The Nguyen Dinh Chieu riverside promenade and Trang Tien Bridge are a short walk away for a quieter end to the night. Note that the pedestrian closure applies on weekend evenings only; on other nights the streets are still lively but open to motorbikes.
