Ancient Hue Garden Houses

Royal-style Vietnamese cooking served in a restored garden house compound in Kim Long, north-west of the Citadel.

This is the most deliberately atmospheric meal in Hue: a set of restored timber garden houses, courtyards and ponds, with a kitchen cooking in the refined court style the city is known for.

It is a destination rather than a drop-in — the compound is a few kilometres from the centre and the meal is designed to take a couple of hours. Dishes are presented in the carved and sculpted manner Hue royal cuisine is famous for, which is a large part of what you are paying for.

Worth booking, particularly for dinner.
